I have recently started taking this (20mg)less than a fortnight ago, and I think I am beginning to feel a little better mood wise. (I actually acheived laods yesterday that would have seem such a struggle a week ago - just everyday stuff).

However they are making me feel nauseous. I am not sick, but still it's not a nice feeling. I'm willing to put up with the nausea if it is only a temporary side effect but will it always be like this?

I also have a dry motuh but find this has just prompted me to drink plenty of water which is a good thing.

Has anyone else taken this and had side effects, and did they wear off?

Temporary effect, definitively. It will get better

jenjins · 03/10/2007 09:02

i took it for 4 months but initally it made me shake and feel very sick but after a few weeks it started to wear off and i did feel a lot better and even found the energy to paint my lounge one night at 10pm! i was always on the go and i actually lost a stone whilst taking them but put all back on after. not a reason to take them though

With ADs there is a risk of unwanted side effects, but these should tail off after the first 6 weeks. Hold on until then if you can.
If the side effects are still a problem after 6 weeks, you can ask your GP to switch you to another SSRI , as different ones suit different people, and unfortunately there's no way of knowing which will suit you best until you try.

Good luck!

Good, I am shaky but was shaky before I even took them so can't blame the tablets!!

I am off my food too - even chocolate!

Good to know other people have felt the same, feel so relieved to be feeling a little better. Yesterday did school run, straight on to post office with ebay parcels, straight off to playgroup all on foot, then to town xmas shopping. Oh and I dyed my hair dark.

hi there, i have been taking them for 6 days and i felt great, feel a bit lower today but been so postive about things.

no other side effects that i know of. had sweaty palms and lost appetite but that may not be a direct side effect tbh

bunnyhunny · 08/10/2007 15:22

Just to pick this thread up again - I am on day 2 and feel a bit spaced out. I have loads of energy, keep forgetting to eat, and generally feel a bit odd. Is this normal/

LadySnotAlot · 08/10/2007 15:38

Hi Spook and Bunny,

I've been on these twice now. First time for 10 months, second time for 6 months. Both times I have begun to get the side effects you mention. Shaky, nauseous, not very hungry. It does wear off after the first two weeks. The dry mouth doesn't really though. I don't know if it gets better or if you just get used to it!

bunnyhunny · 08/10/2007 16:03

I am quite looking forward to not wanting to eat for 2 weeks!!

Meeely2 · 08/10/2007 16:13

First few weeks I was quite forgetful, but didn't care! i have been back on it for a month after a 6 month break and gone all airheady again, but hoping it will setlle down soon, don't feel sick this time though.

allgonebellyup · 08/10/2007 16:15

i have been on ADs for 3.5 weeks, and have dropped from 9 stone to 8 stone in that time from not eating really. look v gaunt! but my appetite is def coming back and i look forward to stuffing my face!

As for the ADs working, im still not sure if they are, as am still tearful, but other side effects for me have been the awful insomnia and dry mouth.

allgonebellyup · 08/10/2007 16:17

oh yes meely, i have absolutely NO memory, cannot remember where i have parked the car (we have on-street parking) and have thus collected a vast number of parking tickets because of this

Also cant remember half the time if i have given the kids their lunch or not..

Meeely2 · 08/10/2007 16:20

before going on them i was quite forgetful anyway, but it used to stress me out, constantly mentally listing things to make sure i had remembered everything, then chatise myself when i had forgotten something......I still do mental lists, but get to the thing i've forgotten and think "ah well, n'mind, do it/get it next time..." I no longer forget the important stuff because I no longer fret about the trivial stuff if that makes sense.....

Lolly68 · 08/10/2007 16:40

I have been taking them for 6 months now and what you are feeling is temporary. However, I have put on a stone since taking them and that I eat very healthily and go to the gym 4 times a week. I have heard it slows your metabolism down... that is the only downside of them but they have helped me wonderfully with regard to everything else.

allgonebellyup · 08/10/2007 16:51

lolly did you lose weight/appetite to start with?

if i put on weight i think i would come off them!

Lolly68 · 08/10/2007 17:16

No I didnt but I was at a really nice weight to start with! I do want to come off them now because of the weight situation but I know you just cant stop taking them so have to go back to docs and cos I work full time its difficult getting an appointment.

ManxMum · 08/10/2007 17:29

nausea - yes, usually a day or so before period.

It is a common side effect and does settle down

Hope you feel LOADS better!!
