EMDR

After being through an abusive relationship and a murder in the family, I've been told I would benefit greatly from EMDR as I suffer from PTSD.

The only thing stopping me is that it's only offered in our area by a charity that works solely with sexual abuse victims therefore I'm not eligible. I've been told I would need 8-12 sessions but at nearly £100 a pop I just can't afford it.

I can't travel out of area as am a lone parent to a toddler and don't have a car at the moment so would be difficult.

Does anyone know of any other way? Or should I just forget about the idea?

You can access free EMDR through your local NHS IAPT service, you can self refer & they'll assess you, the waiting list could be a few weeks to a couple of months.

You can also access the IAPT through your GP.

@JammyDodgerz1 I've just checked the link and the nearest one to me is 43 miles away. It's just too far for me to travel without a car and with toddler to find childcare for.

It would be really worth it for you to find peace of mind, though. Do you have friends/family around who could help you to access this therapy? Think of it as an investment in your future which will benefit not just you but also your little one as the relief you will feel will mean you can face the future in ways that you can't imagine at the moment.

I think they are offering online therapies via zoom would be worth asking or maybe they have an outreach service good luck
