Anxiety and panic attacks

I’ve been through a v stressful time with teen DD recently and I’m not coping well at all. Since last weekend I’ve had a constant churning stomach and needed the loo lots. My heart is racing (scared I’m going to have a heart attack) and I feel very shaky and sick. I’m not eating properly or sleeping well and I’m finding it hard to focus on things. I feel like a complete failure as a parent.

I’ve just completed an e-consultation for my Dr and I’m hoping to get a call today. I’m wondering if she’ll prescribe anti-depressants? I’ve never taken them before - I hate taking any type of medication but I can’t carry on like this!

Any advice? Is there any particular medication I should be asking for?

My GP prescribed beta blockers. Propranolol. I think they're pretty standard for anxiety.

@passthemustard - thanks. That might be a good option for me rather than anti-d’s.

Yes, very little side effect and you don't need to take them every day only when you need them. Good luck.

There are decent resources here on panic, anxiety, etc which may also help you find some more strategies to take care of yourself:

I've been prescribed propranolol and it was really good for the short term. The efficacy wears off so you have to start taking larger doses to get the same effect

Thanks User and Purple
