Would you leave your job for the sake of your mental health

I won’t bore you with the details, but I am currently off work with depression and anxiety. I have suffered this for years but the current role I am in/along with combination of lockdown and working from home for weeks as had a really severe impact on my mental health. I just can’t live like this anymore. The thought of going back is making me feel worse - so if you could afford to, would you leave a job in order to focus on your mental health and family life?

@wildthingsinthenight good for you! How are you feeling now? Can I ask what line of work you are in?

Ploughingthrough · 29/07/2020 10:47

Yes. I have done, and I would again if I need to. I have learnt over the years that if a situation is causing you to feel unwell it is okay to remove yourself from that situation.
Helps to have a couple of months in savings though before you do.

Workinprogress
I work in a school. Been there 17 years doing various roles. I ran the nursery for 10 years then in 2017 moved to work in reception and manage fundraising and events.
I feel very strange! My notice is up on 20th August

I am in this situation just now but sadly can’t afford to leave. I wake every morning wishing I hadn’t awoke, I spend every evening worrying about the next day and holidays usually see me being ill as my body tries to recover. If I could I would leave in a heartbeat. Do it. You get one chance at this life.

@Soscared29 how are you?

zoomzoghedgehog · 06/08/2020 21:09

I left my job of six years recently because I couldn't take it

granadagirl · 08/08/2020 00:08

Definitely I did this
Every morning I’d wake up and I’d be in a panic, I’d be dry heaving before I’d even got out the door
I was so anxious I’d just sit at my desk doing my work, I’d dread getting up and meeting someone would stand and keep me talking, I’d literally be so tense my toes would be clenched. I hated that I couldn’t be relaxed, and clocked watched for home time.

Although times have changed benefit wise now !!! I could at the time manage the mortgage(ex h paid) so I paid bills & food

Life is too short to be hanging on a thread everyday going to work with debilitating mh
