Weaning off sertraline

I've been down to 50mg sertraline every other day since November by halving my 100mg tablets.

I keep asking the surgery for 25mg or 50mg tablets, so I can drop the dose further, but they've always ignored the request (added as a note on my regular repeat prescription).

I stopped taking the tablets on Tuesday, and I'm already dizzy as feck. This also happened when I forgot my pills for a fortnight, and it didn't wear off however I was on 100mg dose then.

How the hell do I wean off these things this time? I've never had a problem coming off pills before - I've been on these twice before and citalopram, but just stopped taking them without issue.

Wow you’ve done so well to cut down as you have. It took me months to get down to 50mg from 100.
I’m afraid cold turkey is brutal and not recommended. I know dealing with the dr can be a pita but I think you need to push the issue of a smaller dose and wean off gently. X

Thank you - I think I saw it not being cold turkey, because the dose is so low now - essentially 25mg a day. Every time I go up the stairs, I get dizzy!

Maybe a phone call appt would do.

I’m pretty gung-ho about things and thought that I could go from 100 to 50 without any difficulty but I really struggled. My gp told me I was crazy and not to try dropping more than 12.5 a week. I have no idea if she made that number up or if it’s some kind of official guidance but it worked ok for me.
At my gp they have a prescribing pharmacist and it’s normally really easy to get an appointment with him when it takes forever to get to a dr. He can do medication reviews. Might be worth seeing if your practice has something similar?

Interesting! I honestly had no issues from 100 to 50 or 50 to 25.

Thank you, I'll contact the pharmacy today.
