Adult autism

Hi I hope this is the right thread I wasn't sure what one to post on. My partner had a lot of autistic traits and he's really worried about it. It's hard to get a referral from our local GP and was wondering if anyone has gotten a private referral if so with who and what kind of costs are involved? We are really keen to get a diagnosis as he was diagnosed wing bipolar disorder years ago but we were pretty sure that he was misdiagnosed and actually has aspergers. Thanks :)

I went at it sideways (pain clinic psychologist referred me). I didn't find the diagnosis particularly helpful (too late!) and the process was very difficult for me. Having said that they are better set up for men than women. Labelling things isn't always helpful. He could try an online test and then just assume he has it? I though I did for years but do wish I hadn't bothered with the actual diagnosis as there is little support so you are left to your own devices pretty much
