Has anyone had experience not interpersonal therapy?

My partner recently split up with me after a problems with his mental health which have in turn made made me depressed. Having spoken to an emergency counsellor she said it sounds like I have issues around setting boundaries and as a result my needs haven't been met. This is a recurring theme in another relationship previously and I think in other areas of my life.

She has suggested Interpersonal Therapy to help me set boundaries and ensure my needs are met better.

Any one for any experience? Did it help?

I'm feeling so down and I just want to feel more like the old me.

Bugger typo in title should read interpersonal therapy and first line should read 'Has anyone has experience of interpersonal therapy?'

@imtiredandiwanttogotobed What country are you in? I am in the UK. I resorted to seeing a private psychiatrist when I found myself totally exasperated with the NHS mental health services. He recommended interpersonal therapy. Unfortunately I could not afford ongoing private therapy and the NHS where I live does not offer interpersonal therapy. The NHS is stubbornly wedded to the idea of CBT irrespective of the fact it isn't suitable for/does not help some people. Good luck x
