Hi my ds nearly 18 has had gad and depression for approx 5 years and has tried 2 types of anti depressants which didn't really help. He has had cbt through cambhs but didn't feel it worked and is quite resistant to trying again.
He does cut himself sometimes but mostly superficial luckily.
I don't know how to help him or support him. He knows he can talk to me any time and I try to get him to watch tv or play games with me sometimes but that's about it.
He couldn't cope with college and rarely goes out side. We did try and help at a charity shop for a while but even that he found very difficult.
Any suggestions as to what works for you to be able to participate in general life or for when you feel so low?

would he consider going impatient to a hospital? My cousin said that was a turning point for her (She went impatient 2 times)

There’s many different antidepressants if he did they on with ssri’s (they do take a while to kick in though before SE lessen)
Perhaps try ssni venlafaxine or duloxotine

Therapy I think all depends if you click with the therapist
Perhaps next time he gets a different one, who it might just click?

Perhaps look at something he as an interest in, maybe they might ask for volunteering
He needs to stick with it if he can manage as that’s the way to feel less depressed or anxious because your keeping yourself motivated
