Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Good evening.

I would be interested to hear from anyone who has had a diagnosis of Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and have had or are having treatment for this. What treatment have you found helpful, what did it entail etc.

I've recently had a mental health assessment and I'm being referred further for possible PTSD and appropriate treatment. I've read a bit online about it and it would explain a lot for me.

Has treatment helped anyone. How are you managing it ?

Lots of questions there I apologise! I'm just apprehensive about what the treatment could be and whether it helps long term

I have been having psychoanalytical psychotherapy for a five years and it has been helpful. I have CPTSD plus another diagnosis (DID)... I also do a physical health appointment each week and daily psychoeducation things.

I wasnt able to access help thru nhs other than generic cbt but did get referred onto a childhood abuse/trauma counselling charity for a year which has been really helpful.

I am worried about that finishing.

@Stayfreshcheesebags Yes, I see a specialist Trauma service with the NHS. I was in a really bad way when I started (very, very severe amnesia the majority of the time).

Thanks to both of you for replying. One of my main concerns is being offered therapy but for only a short number of sessions. I really don't want to open the floodgates and then be left with nothing !

I hope I will find out more once my referral has been completed. I'm glad at the minute to have finally had someone identify what's going on with me.

Just wanted to check, are being referred for CPTSD or PTSD?

Firstly you need the correct diagnosis - a therapist cannot do this. You need to ask for a psychiatrist referral to make the diagnosis.

There's a huge difference between how the two are treated

CPTSD , I'm waiting for the psychiatric referral which could takes months I presume.
