Escitalopram - new taker here - side effects?

Hi all, after a recent spike in anxiety levels and not sleeping, my doc has prescribed me Escitalopram. I took my first one last evening and felt really tired and went to sleep at 9.30pm. On reading the info sheet it warned that they could cause insomnia so I took my second dose this morning. It completely knocked me for six and I spent most of today asleep.
I just wondered how long any side effects you suffered lasted, and generally how you get on with the drug.
Thanks

I started on citalopram and found it made me so tired, even though the main side effects eased after a couple of weeks. So after a couple of months I switched to escitalopram. It also made me tired though. I stuck with it for a while and decided I needed to come off ADs because I felt I was good for nothing as a zombie. GP suggested sertraline so instead I went on to that. I think it's better for me but everyone reacts differently.

I didn't find it made me tired but I did have very intense, vivid dreams. Not bad dreams just very real.

Thanks both, am going to take the next one tomorrow Evening and see if that helps.

Can anyone say how long the side effects lasted for? I had another interesting one last night, needed to get up to go for wee at least 8 times in the night - normally I don't need to go once. Also waking up panicking about work. I feel numb, nauseous and anxious. Before I started taking them I just felt anxious! Any words of hope?

Couple of weeks normally. If they dont settle in 3 weeks go back to GP and they will give you a different one to try.

I’m sure my pharmacist or doctor told me to take it in the morning which I’ve been doing for the last six months, after previously taking it at night and then struggling to sleep. I didn’t realise it was a side effect as I struggled with sleep anyway. I didn’t have any side effects when I started I don’t think so can’t help sorry (my weirdest anti-depressant side effect was constant yawning but not due to tiredness and I think that settled after a week, I can’t remember what drug it was though). Perhaps it’s worth a chat with the Doctor?

Well, I have just spoken to another gp at my practice and I told her about my need to constantly pass water and also extreme tiredness from day 1 of taking the Escitalopram and she has advised me to stop taking it, and has given me beta blockers instead. She has also referred me for urine and blood tests to rule anything else out. It all seems to be taking a while to get it sorted but at least they are being thorough.
