Citalopram

Hi name changed for this just so I’m not recognisable.
Been prescribed citalopram by the GP.
I’ve asked for something that won’t make me fatter. All I’m reading about this is how it causes weight gain by increasing your appetite. And how it ruins your sex drive and ability to climax.
I haven’t taken it yet. I don’t think I will.
Is there a different drug I could ask for that isn’t associated with weight gain and libido/sexual issues?
Thanks in advance.

I think most drugs that are prescribed to treat depression and anxiety have the potential to impact on sexual function and weight. It is impossible to know how the drug will affect you: you might experience a number of side effects, but you might also not have any.

Sometimes side effects disappear within a few weeks of use, sometimes they don't, so you mright initially have an increased appetite and then find it settles.

It can be trial and error to find something that works for you and you have to be prepared to give the drug a few weeks to work. A lot of people find that the medication really improves their quality of life.

I totally understand feeling apprehensive about side effects, as they can sound awful if you read a lot about them, but I think it is worth trying the citalopram first - it's one of the most widely tolerated ADs. If it doesn't suit you, you can always stop it and the side effects will be reversed once you stop taking it.
