Long term sertraline use

I take sertraline and have done for 2 years now. I have OCD and obsessively worry about stuff, mostly work related.
I was on 100 mg and I’m now on 50 mg. I suppose that I want to come off the medication but I’m scared. I don’t think it ‘cures’ me but it takes the edge off. I wish there was a ‘quick fix’ tablet to take as a one off when I had an OCD / anxiety episode to give me perspective - but there isn’t.

Anyone else in a similar position and / or successfully stopped taking the medication?

Thanks

Hi Plant

I've been on sertraline for about 18 months. 150mg for some of this time. Went down to 100mg after the major anxiety source resolved (leaving a toxic work environment). I found 150mg to 100mg was ok. Down to 50mg has been harder. In current times I think I'll be back to 100mg as I'm starting to struggle again. GP doesn't seem to want me completely off it yet. I know one person who has been told they will probably be on it permanently now or certainly for the very long term as their anxiety issues won't resolve in their current situation. I too feel I want to be able to manage without it. Don't think that is happening anytime soon.

Hi OP I have been on sertraline 100mg for six months because I also have OCD and anxiety which is increased at work. The sertraline has helped so I'm not planning on coming off it or reducing the amount any time soon. I don't mind if I have to take it forever really, cos I find it takes the edge off.
