Nobody cares about mental health

Minorchord · 10/05/2020 22:16

Life has been restricted for months now and nobody knows when it will return. I am in a serious depression due to the restrictions and don't know where it will end. I haven't seen anyone for what seems forever and have had suicidal thoughts. It seems to me nobody could care less about mental health, only Covid 19 counts. The more I hear about how life will never return to normal the more I think about dying. By the way if you are the poster called OneandTwenty by any other name please don't post on this thread as you've already seriously worsened my mental health.
I hate everything and everyone right now

Please seek help.

I know it seems like everything is about CV19 but GPs are still open, crisis services are still open, and mental health services are still able to provide telephone appointments for those in urgent need. But you can only access them if you seek them out so tomorrow the first thing you ought to do is to phone your GP and tell them you are in crisis, that you have had suicidal thoughts, and that you need help.

bloodyhellsbellsx · 10/05/2020 22:22

Try and see today’s update as a positive, that things are improving and life will go back to normal. Tomorrow speak to your GP and get some help, services are in place and still running.

ThirtyAndASmidgen · 10/05/2020 22:23

Funny how fast all the mental health stuff has fallen by the wayside... I agree with you.

Sometimeswinning · 10/05/2020 22:24

What you need to do is look for support. Not aibu.

PurpleDaisies · 10/05/2020 22:25

Your gp will talk to you on the phone, and may see you depending on the practice rules.

Please reach out for help in real life. Flowers

Sometimeswinning · 10/05/2020 22:25

It's not just mental health which has been affected.

Moomin12345 · 10/05/2020 22:27

My mental health has improved massively since the lockdown started. I feel for you and you should absolutely seek help, but the hectic pace of life was also intolerable and detrimental to the mental health of millions.

DailyFailstinks · 10/05/2020 22:28

I know how you feel. I live by myself too. The one thing that helps is my sport - but not only can I still not play but others who live in the same household can. It sounds selfish but it’s so much worse watching them have fun when I still can’t.

CountryCasual · 10/05/2020 22:30

When it hits the fan MH goes out of the window and will always be second to physical health.

I have an 8 week old baby and was already having counselling for prenatal depression before this, I’ve had pretty much nothing since the birth.

YoungsterIwish · 10/05/2020 22:35

Minorchord, my friends who are living alone are meeting up with others in the same situation, outdoors mostly. So, 2 people living alone, going for a walk. No, they shouldn't be, but otherwise they will go months without seeing a person - that is not right either. We are sociable beings.

HebeMumsnet · 10/05/2020 22:35

Hello OP, we are really sorry to hear you are feeling this way.

We want to reassure you that many people here DO care about mental health and want to help and support those who are finding the current situation horribly difficult.

We hope you don't mind, but when these threads are flagged up to us we usually add a link to our Mental Health resources. You can also go to the Samaritans website or email them on [email protected].

While support from other Mumsnetters is great, and we really hope you will be able to take some comfort from your fellow posters, as other MNers will tell you, it's really a good idea to seek RL help and support as well and we do hope you will do that. It sounds like you need and deserve a bit more support.

We are going to move this thread to the Mental Health section shortly, as we think you'll find lots more helpful advice there.

We hope you're ok. You definitely aren't alone in feeling like this. While what's happened obviously changes everything, this period of lockdown won't last for ever. Flowers

WorraLiberty · 10/05/2020 22:42

I get you're having a really tough time OP Thanks

But calling out OneandTwenty like that isn't on.

What they said to you on your other thread was their opinion and the way they see things. They weren't being horrible or anything (I know you haven't accused them of that).

But this is the second thread you've started in AIBU and you can't control how others reply to you, as long as it's withing MN guidelines - which their replies were.

Perhaps the internet isn't the best place for you right now and I mean that genuinely Thanks

Star8181 · 10/05/2020 22:48

Hey @Minorchord, sorry you’re feeling so rubbish. Please do phone your GP - my mental health has been awful since lockdown and my GP has been phoning twice a week - there is help out there. Thinking of you Flowers

Monsterjam · 10/05/2020 22:49

You definitely should seek help, I work in Mh and we are still working hard, no changes to our working patterns since Covid-19. Help is there it’s just a bit harder to get, but call your GP and they should be able to refer you somewhere 🤞🤞

RoseGoldCloud · 10/05/2020 22:54

I totally agree with you about mental health! I’ve been shocked at the lack of sympathy for people struggling with lockdown mentally.

If it’s got to this stage for you it should definitely be taken seriously. I’d argue that you are vulnerable and someone could come and visit you on that basis to ensure you are okay.

Let’s see also what they say tomorrow about the details of this announcement. Maybe it will be possible to meet a friend at the park so long as you socially distance.

Minorchord · 10/05/2020 23:04

But calling out OneandTwenty like that isn't on.
The replies of that person damaged my wellbeing and I don't agree with you one bit that it isn't on to call them out. Thanks for the mostly helpful replies. I'm stopping posting on here now. If its possible I'll block the thread or maybe MNHQ can delete it.
