I've just been prescribed it. Very very worried it's going to cause weight gain as I'm already very overweight.

Also worried it'll cause irritability as I've heard it can do.

I’ve been on it for 11 years - it literally saved my life. Much less side effects than other antidepressants I’ve been on.

@Devaki thank you!

I haven't been on any for years now but I think this is the only SSRI I haven't been on! My doctor was shocked at all the things I'd tried.

I was worried as I've had some AWFUL side effects with others, Prozac tipped me right over the edge and I became psychotic.

I tried it after a unsuccessful stint with Sertraline. It is working for me. I haven't put any additional weight on.

Lexapro didn't suit me, it gave me a constantly racing heartbeat and yes, irritability.

GP wanted me to come off Seroxat, which has always suited me well, and prescribed me Lexapro instead. After a week I had to beg him to put me back on Seroxat. Normality was resumed. It's not prescribed much these days, but it allows me to function like a normal human being. It might not suit you though, if Prozac didn't.

I started escitalopram 4 weeks ago. First two weeks were not nice and I did feel hungry all the time however this has settled now and I’ve not gained any weight so far.

My mood has lifted especially in the current circumstances with covid 19 anxiety so I feel it has had a beneficial effect on me.

Did it give any one sleep problems? The last two nights I've woken at 3am. Not cool!

No. Not at all. Obviously had the sweats and an upset stomach which I always experience at the start of a new antidepressant. I was on citalopram for 10 years plus previously, but stopped working.🙁 Different people seem to suit different antidepressants.

Can I ask how you are getting on now? I’m on week 2 of starting this and the side effects have not been nice, it’s making me wonder whether to continue or not
