Citalopram

So I’ve been prescribed 20mg of citalopram daily by my doctors for anxiety. I’ve just taken the first one but then read online it says to discuss with doctors first if you have a fast heart rate. Now I’m feeling on edge as according to my fitbit my heart rate is usually above 100 for most of the day. Anyone else taken this? Also I was advised by someone I know who takes it to start in the evening as it can make you drowsy. I have started in the evening tonight, is that okay? As online a lot say mornings. I’m feeling so anxious and on edge about it (like I do about everything tbh)

Are you active and on the go a lot? That will increase your heart rate obviously. Your GP will be aware of any risks and side effects and will have taken into account before prescribing. If you are still worried I would contact a pharmacy to ask the question. (You probably won't get a hold of a GP.)

I take mine in the morning but have taken in evening too as the very first time I was on it, it made me sleepy. Now I'm a rubbish sleeper so I take it in the morning. If you want to change the time of day you take it just adjust by a couple of hours each day until you are taking it at the time which suits you best.

Thank you for the advice re changing the time of taking it. I have a baby so I’m walking about after her and things but not constantly and not exactly like working out or anything just literally walking about the house. But I told them I was having chest pains and light headed ness etc too and they said it’s likely panic attacks and this should help. Also I guess the heart rate could be higher because of the anxiety. I’ve let it control me for about 10-15 years now and finally asked for help. And now I’m anxious about that, typical.

It is more usual to start with 10mg and build up to 20mg. Surprised this was not suggested to you. The side effects can be difficult but after a settling in period of 2 or 3 weeks, usually ok.
