My friend recently told me that she had an abortion and I know its an awful thing to say but with one thing and another I think she maybe lying? she is 19 would she have got it done free and how quickly would she have got an appointment.

She could have it done free on the nhs yes, but would have had to wait until she was around 8-10 weeks i think.

If she went privatly she would have got it done quicker but even then they like you to be 8 weeks before they carry it out.

She could have had the tablets that induce a miscarriage though I think.

why do you think she would be lying? she could have gone straight to her GP or family planning and got referred for a termination on the NHS. it might not have been a surgical procedure, there is a medication that can be given to terminate pregnancy very early on

I can tell you it is possible to get an appointment within 2 days of talking to someone and a week later having the procedure. And that you can have it done at less than 8 weeks. For free.

Thanks for all your help, she seems to see it all as a joke, made a few comments about the procedure which she seems to find funny.
also discoverd she was pregnant and supposidly terminated all within 2 weeks.
its hard to say she is lying but she seems to have taken it all so well, though I suppose the could be putting on a front, I am just very unsure, but why would anyone lie about something like that?

Maybe she's trying to protect herself by being jokey about it.

It is possible for it all to happen within 2 weeks, or even less.

Has she lied about "dramatic" events before?

she can turn the smallest of things into a drama! and make a big deal and go on about things for weeks, when she really doesnt have too.
she can start crying at the drop of a hat and just seems to want hugs all the while rather childlike and clingy, I jut dont know how i should deal with her.

well if she is telling the truth you need to stress to her that abortion is not just a form of contraception,they are medical procedures that can have complications

i don't think i'd have been joking about it like that so soon after. but then everyone's different.

i would sit her down and say 'look it's bloody serious, you can't go through life treating everything as a joke.' and go from there.

i would seriously consider maybe deliberately cooling off with her for a while if you still don't get anywhere and she's this hard to trust.

she's obviously got this 'front'on to protect herself...but making jokes about it is not cool.(have you seen those tshirts saying 'abortions tickle!' how sick is that??)
Maybe some people can feel no emotion after having an abortion i guess....??
Especially if she didn't want a baby, was only 2 weeks etc...she may have felt like it was no big deal but she's still being v.inappropriate about it.

On the other hand yeah she could just be covering up her distress about the procedure by making a joke of it. It's not a nice thing to have to go through.

You should try and get her to open up about it. Try and provoke some sort of emotion and tell her that abortion is a difficult thing to go through and you're there for her to talk etc.
