Afternoon everyone

So for quite a while now (good couple of years) I've been researching my mental health more and more, and bipolar crops up more with my symptoms/traits. I have been ok sertraline for a year but still have episodes of deep depression with the odd manic phase. I'm just wondering how to word it all to my GP without them blaming it on my thyroid or anything else. TIA

Write bullet points of each symptom you have and try not to self diagnose I know it is hard as we want answers, but just to warn you a gp cannot diagnose bipolar the procedure is to take bloods to rule out physical conditions and if he feels your needs are more complex than he is qualified to handle (as bipolar 2) is he will refer you to a psychiatrist. You will probably have a long wait this is normal try not to feel like you are unimportant or being brushed aside. People do care and will help it's just that our mental health system is underfunded and unless you are in need of emergency care you won't be seen quickly. I recommend particular bullet points of hypomanic symptoms as these are what will help him detach you from unipolar depression and refer to a psychiatrist hth Smile
