Health anxiety

I have recently been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis after a stay in hospital on iv steroids. Since coming home i have more complications and have suspected fistulas in bowel, bladder and vagina. My anxiety is over the roof. Cant sleep, contentrate, shaking etc. Gp suggested putting me on antidepressants. Will this make me feel any better? I have heard you can get worse before you get better. Any advice would be appreciated.

Bless you. You've been through a crap time. I suffer terribly with health anxiety. I've just recovered from a kidney stone (I hope) and my follow up scan has been cancelled because of coronavirus.
Annoyingly I find getting out and going for a walk helps a bit but that's so hard at the moment.
I've always been too scared to try anti depressants but people on here have said positive things about them.
