Can sertraline really work so quickly?

After losing the plot on the way to work on Thursday (having broken down to boss the day before in tears) I have been prescribed sertraline. I have been suffering intrusive thoughts and severe anxiety for ages.

The same day (now on day 3) I took the first tablet I felt calmer and have been able to talk about things without sobbing. Now I know this could be the placebo effect but tbh I had been expecting to feel worse before I got better, as I had been warned likely. I'm certainly not complaining but am interested if others felt like this too? I do feel quite hyper and mildly concerned this may not be as positive as it seems!

I know I've said calmer but also hyper - I guess I mean less tearful.

I respond to sertraline pretty soon after starting/increasing the dose. In matter of days. Also mirtzapine has same effect. The problem I have is that I get depressed again and need to increase dose or add another antidepressant.

It's the initial boost. It wears off and then comes back gradually ime. Don't feel let down when you dip back down because it will slowly build you back up.

Thanks - you're right I started to feel a bit worse again last night and I feel decidedly blah this morning. Hopefully will start to pick up again soon.
