Sertraline

DH has been prescribed with this for his depression. Do any of you take it? Have you had any side effects?

I have to admit to feeling a little skeptical of the way doctors just hand out ADs willy nilly.

I suggested he try exercise, meditation, sobriety etc first, but he feels that taking the tablets will help kick all this into action.

He has booked on to see a counsellor too.

I have no experience of depression so any thoughts on how helpful/ unhelpful ADs are would be much appreciated.

Any other ideas for things he can do to help himself too?

Not personally but my DS has recently started sertraline for depression/anxiety (I have an ongoing thread in AIBU)
I was sceptical and DS was really against taking them.
But it's been almost a month and he is in a much better place. He had hardly any side effects, just a bit of dizziness and some insomnia to begin with. Much less than he feared.
He is also having CBT
Hope things improve for your DHFlowers

I have been on it since October. I felt quite spaced out/ nauseous in the first few weeks. I also lost my appetite and could yawn for England for a good few months!

It took a good 3-4 months for me to feel the full benefit (although i did have good days before hand) but I am so much better now!

Like your husband I wanted to take them to kick start a change. I now feel I am well on my way but believe the advice is to stay on them for a while yet.

Also did feel a little worse before I got better but knew to expect this which helped. Would recommend reading other threads as it really helped knowing what to expect!

I'm in my 2nd week for anxiety and panic attacks. First week I felt incredible, mainly because I was sleeping properly, felt normal for the first time in years. This week I've gone from 25mg to the full 50mg tablet and I feel a bit wobbly again, very tired, very sore/dry mouth, got that knot in my stomach again, but hoping it passes. No real major side effects other than it making me sleepy, so I take it at night. They say it can take 4-6 weeks to fully kick in so don't be disheartened if it does nothing at first. Hoping it works for your DH!
