I have just started on mirtazapine for depression and anxiety. Feeling very low and just wondered if anyone could share any positive stories and how long it took to feel better?

I felt anxious and had slightly disordered thought for about 5 days on starting it. After that I began sleeping better and although I still woke up during the night, I went straight back to sleep instead of clock watching. My phobia of eating in public disappeared and I became calmer and much better at recognising my own anxiety triggers and dealing with them instead of catastrophising them and heading into a downward spiral. Only downside for me was the hunger, but I hadn't really eaten for 2 months prior to starting them, but did end up a stone heavier than my usual weight after a couple of months. I took it for 6 months while I made changes in my life (left my job and had some talking therapy) and then felt confident to taper off, do miss them sometimes especially as insomnia seems to be recurring

Thank you @muddledmidget. I started two nights ago and just praying they help me after I had a bad experience with Sertraline. Feels like I've not been myself for so long.

I also had a bad experience with sertraline, but got on well with Mirtazapine. I definitely felt fuzzy and lethargic for the first few days, but after that it was great. I slept well, and it sorted my anxiety. I ate a LOT though!

Very foggy first couple of weeks on them but they allowed me to sleep and to dampen anxiety while I had psychology counselling. I turned into a carb monster though. Not helpful when you have PCOS and are overweight anyway... it was the least of my problem at the time though, I just needed help to feel ok again.

May take 2 to 3 weeks my partner is on it :) he seems more like himself. Good luck x

I changed from Escitalopram and have been in them about a month, only 15mg for now but feeling pretty ok.
They increased my appetite ridiculously so bit that is starting to tail off now. I do have the most lucid, weird dreams but I can cope with those over feeling like crap. I would give them a few weeks at least. x

Thanks guys.
I've been having vivid dreams but nothing more abnormal than my usual dreams. Think I'm quite a vivid dreamer anyway.

@slimereciphell do you feel better than when you started? When did you start to see some improvement?

My appetite has improved from what it had been which was basically 0 because I have been feeling so bad. Wouldn't say its any more than my normal appetite though.

Hi lovely how are you now?? What was experiemce with sertraline? Iv just been in hospital for 12 weeks thanks to sert and cit x

I have been on Mirtazapine for several years now. I take it in combination with Sertraline and Priadel though, as I have Bipolar, rather than unipolar depression. It took a while to feel the full effects, but definitely works for me. I think it was probably a few weeks to get the full effect, but it helped my sleep almost straight away. Hope that helps. GL
