When, why and how did you stop taking ad's?

Just wondering how other people had gone about it. I started taking sertraline in January for PND after the birth of DS2. I had PND with DS1 as well, but didn't take ad's then (wish I had now though!). They've worked absolute wonders for me, and I'm a completely different (mostly better) person. I always thought I'd stop after 6 months or so (DS2 is 14m now, and the PND ended at about this time with DS1), but not sure if I should. Are there any problems with taking them longer term? Do you need to up the dose, or can you just continue on the original one?

I think the advice I got was to keep on the same dose till you've been feeling better for quite a while, approx 4-6 months. This is to ensure you are really stable and over the depression.

I think you;re then advised to reduce the dose gradually, till you're down to one low-dose tablet every other day or whatever. Eventually you stop that. I felt loads better and felt I could have stopped them quicker but I think the dr wants to make sure you are really OK and not suddenly stop the ADs.

Talk to your GP, s/he should be able to advise you. It's better to be on them a little longer than you thought you would be than come off them too soon. They can be bloody marvellous things - worked wonders for me.
