Disassociation or effect of medication

My SIL has had a very traumatic couple of years and basically faced three major life events at once. Her life also changed completely. She was able to get counselling and later went on Mirtazipine and Sertraline for anxiety and depression.

She's doing better now (although some of the trauma is still there) but she said that when she thinks back to that period she has a kind of blank feeling about a lot of the most painful moments. She also said there were certain things which nearly broke her at the time which she'd completely forgotten had happened. She doesn't feel much of anything when thinking about it.

Could this be the medication 'rewiring her emotions' so they're more bearable or is it disassociation (I think that's the term)?
