What can I do to get through the next week?

I've been in counselling for a few months for a few different issues. It stopped over Christmas as it's through a charity connected to my university. I've started having suicidal thoughts and even a really scary moment (attempt?) which ended with a phone call to 999. Self harm has been involved. I don't go back to counselling till the 13th and the charity is closed until then.

I don't really know what to do in the meantime. I'm not actively suicidal at the moment so don't feel I should be speaking to samartitans or similar but I do feel I need help getting through the next 10 days. Can the gp help me in the meantime? I don't want to waste anyone's time but I do feel like I need help

In my experience of needing help with short term mental health issues the GP will only advise of counselling services and with anti anxiety/depression meds. Thanks

As a Samaritans volunteer I urge you to ring them as often as you need to.
Lots of callers are just needing a listening ear to help at a tough time, and thankfully not all are suicidal.

@ItWentInMyEye I'm not currently on any medication. Do you have any idea if medication could help in the short term?

@potoftea thank you. I'm finding it difficult to talk about it out loud but I'll need to get over that if I'm going to get help. Thank you for all your work as a volunteer, I have so much respect for people like you.

Antidepressants can take 3+ weeks to work, but I was put on beta blockers (propranolol) for anxiety that seemed to help me straight away. They take away the symptom of anxiety like sweating, sleeplessness etc. I have a pretty free week if you feel the need to have someone here for you anonymously OP.
