Is this normal or could he have taken something else?

He's a physically fit 20 year old.
This was the first time he has taken Zopiclone and at 1am he was still very awake and quite agitated by the strong taste in his mouth. He said that id he wasn't asleep by 1.15am he was going to get up and go on his xBox. But we heard nothing more. I've been in a few times this morning and I can rouse him but he cannot stay awake.

I would really appreciate your thoughts or experiences as I am sick with worry.

Thank you

I’m not an expert but I’ve taken zoplicone myself in the past and I’d say whilst it’s a very effective sleeping pill, it’s not likely to do anything untoward. If you can rouse him i would be happy with that. He’s probably just catching up. X

Thank you Hemlock, he eventually woke up fully, got showered and has gone to work.
I'm so worried about him as I know he is experimenting with substances to help him sleep and/or ease his depression.
The GP gave him 7 sleeping pills on condition that he let me hold them.

I only have 3.75mg doses of zopiclone now because the 7.5mg really knocked me for six and made me groggy the next day.

I usually find that when the nasty taste becomes noticeable they're about to knock me out (so I relax at that point) - but you do have to be lying in bed resting, inviting sleep. If you're keeping yourself awake and up and doing things they won't work as well, because you're preventing yourself from sleeping.

I think they say boiled sweets can help with the unpleasant taste the next day if it lingers. It's not nice having a mouth that tastes like you've been eating iron filings!

Don't know the background here, but one of the things I really like about zopiclone is that it gives me dreamless sleep. No nightmares, no dreams, just rest. It's good for respite.

Yep, zopiclone is funny. You'll be lying there and literally thinking, 'Bloody hell, this isn't work - zzzzzzzzzz'.

Both DH and I have used it in the past - I never noticed a taste, but DH says it makes water taste really bitter.
