I’ve been on it since October 2017. It’s been amazing for me. I had terrible insomnia that was causing horrific depression and anxiety, and it’s massively helped with sleep. I still sometimes have nights where I wake up (like tonight!) but they are few and far between, and it’s normally pretty easy to drop back off again. The improved sleep has improved my mental health almost 100% - so it’s been pretty miraculous for me.

I must admit, I did have a few wobbles in the beginning about weight gain, and tried to stop taking it a couple of times (that did not go well!). I put on about a stone in the first few months, but honestly the increased appetite settled down, and I would say it’s pretty much back to normal now. I haven’t lost the weight yet, but to be honest I haven’t really been trying. I’ve just joined a gym so hoping I can lose a bit in the new year!

Before mirtazapine, I had tried fluoxetine, sertraline, citalopram and amitriptyline - none of these worked - in fact, they made my anxiety so much worse, especially fluoxetine, which made me stop sleeping completely, had me climbing the walls and having panic attacks. Mirtazapine has had absolutely no side effects apart from the weight gain, and that seems to have stopped after the initial few months as my body has adjusted to it. We all react differently, of course, but I would give it a good go - it can be a great med if it suits you 😃

Ive the weight gain never levelled out, just kept increasing due to the drug stimulating the appetite
However the drug itself is a life saver and, for me, was worth the weight gain
