Anxiety getting worse and quickly

I’ve had anxiety in relation to my 7yo dds genetic condition, usually just around her getting poorly and hospital appointments. I’ve been managing this well recently and I’ve had it since the whole process started when she was 18 months old.

Ive had small bouts where it’s spilled over but it’s generally gone in a few months and it’s not affected me that badly either. Just the odd anxiety attack maybe twice or three time’s a week.

This is much different. I’ve been struggling for 3 weeks now, it’s literally every night I’m having an attack, sometimes twice a night. It’s always when the kids are in bed and Im either getting ready to go to bed or when I’m laid in bed.

Nothing has majorly changed, I had a break up of a very short relationship in the summer, nothing serious, my daughter has been pretty healthy this winter so far too.

I’m really struggling with the attacks. They last a lot longer than previous ones. I’m generally having small moments too, like I went to ikea the other day and felt an attack coming on when it came to paying, i knew I had more than enough to cover it but I was still terrified it was going to be declined!!

I’d rather avoid medication as it makes me sleepy and with me being the only adult in the house, I have to be able to wake up to my youngest and my 7yo when she wakes too!

What can I do to help ease these?? I’ve contacted the mental health service but it’s going to be at least feb before I’m even assessed!! I can’t keep staying up til midnight!!

Hi @Mouseymummy

How are you feeling today? Have you had a better weekend ? You sound like you've been coping really well, as you've clearly got a lot on your plate.

Re the panic attacks, have you tried meditation? The Headspace app has some good guided meditations for anxiety. I also find writing in a journal helps when I'm bad. Also yoga and breathing exercises.

Do you have any support in real life? Do you friends and family know how you're suffering?

I'm thinking of you. Panic attacks are awful 💐
