Weaning off mitazepine.

I've been on mitazepine for a number of years at 45mg. I'm under a neuropsychiatrist who has suggested coming off these (I've put on loads of weight and I'm still taking venlafaxine to help with my depression).

He has prescribed me a lower dose to help me wean off, but has only given me 10 days worth at 30mg and 10 days worth at 15mg. That doesn't seem very long to taper off a medication I have been on for years.

Does anyone else hate experience of coming off this drug?

I was also on 45mg for years and had the horrendous weight gain. When I decided to come off them I just stopped. No ill effects whatsoever. So I'm imagining you'll be fine

I stopped Mirtazapine abruptly and it wasn't a problem at all.

Thank you that's really reassuring, I've read all sorts of horror stories. Did the weight come off when you came off them? I've put on so much weight, and I needed to lose some in the first place. I need to lose about 8st now, it's so overwhelming

Dh also just stopped. He was on 45mg for years and got fed up with the weight gain so just decided he’d had enough and just stopped. He was absolutely fine. No side effects at all.

I stopped taking them when DH died, because I had some irrational belief that I needed to feel the grief rather than mask it, or it wouldn't do him justice. (I was quite unwell and had these strange thoughts). I didn't taper, just stopped taking them, and had no physical effects. Mentally I had a breakdown, but that wasn't because of coming off the meds per se, rather because I was under a lot more stress and grief than I ever was when I started taking them.

I stopped taking mirtqzaphine in September. The only side effect i had from stopping them was i stopped gaining weight and started losing it quickly

I just stopped taking mine recently and stopped abruptly. The only side-effect I've had is difficulty sleeping so I'm taking Nytol occasionally

Did the weight come off when you came off them?
No sadly. It took me a couple of years to lose the weight ( it was about two stone)
I did notice my appetite changed very quickly to become more normal and my sleep was never as good again after stopping
