Aripiprazole experiences

Hey, just started on aripiprazole a few days ago and it immediately had a bad effect on my sleeping... I took the first three at night and I didn't sleep at all... very jumpy and seeing and hearing things. I've taken it in the morning today to try to stop that happening.

A good friend of mine had terrible experiences with it and had told me in no uncertain terms that she fears for me taking it. However, if it makes a difference she has bipolar 1 and I have bi polar 2.

I want to persevere as these have been prescribed by specialist psychiatrist. Wondered what others experiences have been?

I take 25mg for schizoaffective disorder.

In 2012 - 2013 when I first started taking it I was on 15mg straight away & had terrible restless legs for several months.
I don't now but I do have a repetitive hand movement & often clench / grind my teeth during the day which my psychiatrist says is a side effect.

But it's worth it as despite a few 'breakthrough' psychotic symptoms that occur when I get very tired & a bit of paranoia I do seem normal to everyone & feel like my old self.

I was very delusional before I started it.

Ah okay, I'm only on 5mg - but glad to hear your experience has been positive overall. Can I ask what time of day you take them?xx

I take lots of meds so they contribute to making me sleepy!

I recently attempted switching from Quetiapine to aripiprazole my sleep went to pot I went from sleeping a good amount to / split hours. I soon switched back

zoflirter · 18/11/2019 14:53

Thanks grumpbum, I switched because I was on Olanzapine and I just slept all day and night, constantly exhausted. But now my sleep is terrible and I feel quite fidgety.

Although I am getting more done so should t complain!
