I started sertraline a couple of days ago for constant anxiety and worry. The first two days I felt fine but today my anxiety has been a lot worse. I seem to constantly have this panicky feeling in my chest. I also didn't sleep very well. I know it can take a while for this drug to work. Anyone that has taken this before, when did the side effects start to get a bit better ? Did it help with your anxiety ?

Hi,
I'm on week 5/6 of Sertraline for crippling anxiety/panic/social phobia.
I had to ease myself into it by taking 12.5 for a few days, then 25, then 50. That prevented the physical side effects for me, but I did suffer worse anxiety and agitation for the first 3ish weeks.
Then one morning I woke up and just felt more capable of getting on with the day despite still having anxious thoughts.
Every day now I feel better and better. It really feels like a miracle for me. I have always suffered with anxiety and low moods since the age of 13, but in the last year since stopping breastfeeding, I had gotten into an awful state with my mental health, and could barely leave the house.
Taking sertraline and facing the worse before it gets better symptoms is really hard, but for me it has has been totally worth it, and yes it has gotten rid of 80% of my anxiety to date, still only on 50mg, so I'm hoping to increase and get to 100% recovered if possible.

Hope this helps. xx
