DS self medicating with weed

DS has MH issues, which he on the face of it acknowledges and attends counselling for, as well as taking prescribed meds (AFAIK). The last year has been hell, mostly due to his use of weed to self medicate.

The problem is - he doesn't see that it is a problem. However, it really is.

This is his first year living away at uni, and I know that the combination of his existing MH issues and weed has not gone well for his studies or social situation.

We have tried everything, and I have gone through the spectrum of emotions and reactions, but it still continues. Because of the MH issues, he is also vulnerable, so I have to be careful of what I say and do. But the consequence is that my MH is suffering, and I feel like I have been living on my nerves for the past year - and I really don't know how much more I have in reserve, but at the end of the day I'm his mum, so I need to step up.

I have told him that he needs to turn himself around by xmas, or consider leaving uni in order to cut his losses. I don't know if that was the right thing to do, but I am at a loss how else to support him without enabling him further.
