Fluoxetine

I just started fluoxetine today, I've never taken antidepressants before and I'm scared that they won't work. My life is a mess at the moment, I've just come out of a year long relationship after my ex kept betraying me by going on dating sites throughout our relationship. I just feel so worthless, crying all the time, snappy at my poor children. I just want to feel better. Is anyone else taking them?

Just wondered whether it took a while for fluoxetine to kick in for you? I’m on it for sleep anxiety day 12 and feel so anxious still x

I hope it works for you, bluebirdie, it doesn't suit everyone but some are fine.

I'd be more worried about the 'quick fix' CBT, from what you've said about your problems you may need longer term therapy of a different type - but it's worth a try.

Your story is very sad, why on earth has your ex husband alienated your children from you - that is just plain wrong.

I took fluoxetine for anxiety and depression successfully for about 5 years and stopped 4 years ago as I felt well again and thought I could do without them.

Slowly but surely the anxiety has returned and I'm now in a bad state.

I went back to the Dr last week and he has put be back on my original 20mg dose.

First time round I didn;t really feel any different until one day, at exactly 6 weeks I woke up and felt the weight of the world had been lifted from my shoulders - I was almost euphoric.

The side effects long term (once they had stabilised) for me were slight dry mouth, very light sleeping and the worst one, sexual dysfunction. Not enough to to stop things, but certainly turned down the pleasure dial several notches, but looking back, it was worth it to feel better.

I hope that feeling of being normal and not in a stressed to bursting, highly anxious state returns soon, as I'm just exhausted with it.
