Made a major minor accomplishment? Mental well being thread to celebrate those big little moments

I have struggled with poor mental health for many years. Some days it can be a struggle just to get dessed and other days I can be up and on the go all the time. I thought it would be helpful to have a daily check in thread to celebrate those little big things for all us should it just be replying to a text you have avoided or scaling Mount Everest that day. Big or little all accomplishments are of equal value and may just help others on their mental well-being journey. And of course general chit-chat is very welcomed!

Would love if we could get a group together, please join me!

For over a year there's been a very tall, narrow cardboard box outside my bedroom door, that DD's bed came in. Today I finally got round to hacking the bloody thing apart with a kitchen knife and shoving it in the recycling. Major accomplishment.

SeaSidePebbles · 30/10/2019 19:54

I tidied up as soon as I walked in (again!). DD is home alone during half term and boy can she make a mess.
But it only took us 3 minutes, I was able to eat and relax in peace.

cheeseycharlie · 30/10/2019 19:55

Achievement du jour: went to therapy and managed to let out some of my emotions for once instead of insisting all is fine and on the right track. Cried really a lot. Feel shit but at least I'm being honest with myself. Might sound a bit negative but honestly I see this one as achievement.

Hope the rest of you have also managed one small thing again for another day.

Amimissingsomethinghere · 31/10/2019 05:17

@NowWeSuckingDiesel atleast she will eat soup - you can hide lots of veggies!
It's half a butternut squash, roughly 5 carrots, small handful of sage leaves and 4 shallots, peel and chop all veggies roughly and roast with sage for about an hour until soft. Blend everything with veggie stock till desired consistency. You can then sprinkle on crumbled feta for adults of mix in some philly for kids. It's yum! XxX

Diy2019 · 31/10/2019 07:17

Well done to everyone on their achievements yesterday 😊 I'm loving this thread!

@WWlOOlWW well done to you driving out of your comfort zone!

@Tyrotoxicity glad you finally got around to that, I still have big boxes here from earlier in the year that I need to attack. Must try and get around to it in the next few days.

@cheeseycharlie that is a huge accomplishment to actually say what you are feeling and not pretend all is 'fine'. I hope you had a good sleep and are feeling better this morning.

@Amimissingsomethinghere
That sounds really delicious and good comfort food for the winter.

Well the baby woke up at 5 this morning so it's going to be a long day here. My 6yo is also up and excited about Halloween. There is a scary walk on in the local park this evening that I am supposed to be bringing the kids to with their cousins and school friends. I've been really anxious about leaving the house though in the last few months so I am dreading it. Dp left for work this morning and won't be back until tomorrow so if I don't take the kids, there is no one else to take them, and I don't want them to miss out because of me Sad

Hope everyone else here has a good day today Smile

NowWeSuckingDiesel · 31/10/2019 09:22

@Amimissingsomethinghere thank you for the recipe, it sounds really delicious, will make it at the weekend, thank you.

Today i hope to take the kids to some Halloween events in our home town. Haven't done it for a couple of years, (anxiety) dh has taken them instead so this will be more of a major achievement for me. Halloween Wink

Hope everyone has a good day. Flowers

Diy it's immensely satisfying if you chance to choose the right knife. You'll enjoy it when you eventually get around to it.

Planned accomplishment for today: a friend's going to a Halloween thing at the pub in the corner of my street, and I will get dressed and leave the house and Do Socialising. Apparently it's good for me.

OkayGo · 31/10/2019 13:22

Today instead of spiralling into a panic about a flat tyre on my horrible old car, I actually fixed it myself. Usually I would have a massive panic and wait for my husband to eventually fix it and be stuck indoors with dd while being resentful of his lovely car.

SeaSidePebbles · 01/11/2019 08:15

okaygo, you’re ‘my kind of girl’. Kudos for fixing the car! Tell you a funny story: my exH was useless at anything practical. I grew up with brothers, I’m a very dab and perfectionist hand at anything DIY related. My exH couldn’t change a lightbulb. So when I met my now DP (who is almost as good as me-he’s stronger though) it came as a complete shock to him I can not only use a drill, I can fix it if it’s not working. So we had a few occasions in which I started a DIY project and DP was bemusedly waiting for me to cock it up so he can sweep in and ‘save me’ 😂. Instead, he learnt a thing or two. He also learnt that a trip to B&Q makes me happier than a shopping trip with the girlies. So now we’re a formidable team.

tyro, diesel, how was last night, did you have fun?
amimissing, thank you for the soup recipe, I’ll try it! I’ll add a bit of chilli flakes and roasted pumpkin seeds over the top.

My achievement yesterday was the longest run I’ve ever done, 7k. I’ve never done more than 5 in one go ever! So I pushed myself quite a bit, and did it! It hurts though. 😂
Do you guys know about ‘Action for Happiness’? They have a monthly calendar, this month is Try something new November’.
Look it up, I’m doing it this month. The first day asks you to think of something new you’d like to try this month. It can be a recipe, a hairstyle, it doesn’t matter what, just something you haven’t tried before. I’m going to try spinning. Under my rock, where I normally live, I never knew what it actually spinning is. I heard OF it, but I had elliptical equipment on my brain, I thought you’re holding onto something and you spin 😂. What a fucking twat!
Anyway, my DP is big into it, and if there’s anybody out there just as ignorant as I am, let me illuminate you: it’s cycling on a static bike, you have an instructor shouting stuff at you, it’s virtually in the dark and music is blaring out. Like cycling in a disco. Mental. I want to try it!

Disfordarkchocolate · 01/11/2019 08:23

Thanks for the thread, it's a great idea. As part of my CBT I try to do ACE each week - achievement, connecting and enjoyment. It's very hard when having depression, agoraphobia, GAD and a hideous lack of concentration.

This week I went for afternoon tea. I've had the vouchers since last Christmas so it's taken a while but I really enjoyed it.

Diy2019 · 01/11/2019 08:41

How was yesterday for everyone?

Well done @OkayGo, that was a huge accomplishment.

@SeaSidePebbles 7k Shock that's amazing! I'd love to be able to run, its one of the things I keep saying I will do but never get around to. I might try and start a couch to 5k programme.
I'll look up action for happiness.
Good luck with the spinning, it sounds like a lot of fun where you are with the lights down low and loud music.

@dark chocolate I hope you had a nice dessert with your afternoon tea Smile

I didn't make it out of the house yesterday Sad. I was really dreading the Halloween walk and didn't want to go. Then the weather got really bad so ds was happy to stay in with his favourite movie and some treats.
My achievement though was completing my first cross stitch pattern. I started doing it last week to try and keep myself occupied in the long evenings when the baby is asleep and keep me off my phone. I finished it yesterday and it'll be made into a cushion today. I'll try and attach a pic.

Hope everyone has a good day today.

OkayGo · 01/11/2019 08:47

@SeaSidePebbles thank you!! That’s brilliant that you can do that. I love being able to fix stuff myself, and since my dh works away a lot I have taken to saying ‘what would you do if he wasn’t here’ and sorting and fixing things myself! Trying to be a good example to my daughter :)

@diy2019 thank you :))

Disfordarkchocolate · 01/11/2019 08:48

I had far too many @Diy2019. All lovely.

I love the idea of learning a craft, I sometimes ' colour in' to calm my mind but it would be nicer to have something to show for it.

glitteringfishy · 01/11/2019 09:39

That’s lovely @Diy2019 - I do tapestry and find it really soothing. It really does feel like an achievement doesn’t it. I have two big finished ones that need turning into cushions but are just sat rolled up in a corner as I have no idea how to do it!

My achievement yesterday was going to therapy and having a friend over for a cuppa. To be honest each day I survive at the moment feels like an achievement in itself.

Hope everyone has ok Fridays

Orangecake123 · 01/11/2019 19:36

@NowWeSuckingDiesel Thank you!

Orangecake123 · 01/11/2019 19:40

@Diy2019 the cross stitch is amazing!

Disfordarkchocolate · 01/11/2019 20:14

Today I managed a trip to my parents and then a meal out with my husband and son. I very big achievement as I felt so anxious this morning I fell asleep (I know it sounds odd but apparently being anxious is tiring for the body). A very quiet weekend is now needed. I hope you all enjoy the weekend.

Orangecake123 · 03/11/2019 06:22

Cleaning yesterday.
Dishes washed.
I studied maybe 2.5h

Then just gave at 4.30pm and stayed in bed going to sleep whilst listening to an audiobook.

NowWeSuckingDiesel · 03/11/2019 06:46

After a few crap days yesterday i got showered, dressed and put make up before going to get groceries. Made me feel more human and a bit more confident.

How did everyone get on at the weekend?

@Disfordarkchocolate I hope you enjoyed a nice quiet weekend.

@Orangecake123 well done getting that much study done!

@NowWeSuckingDiesel hope you are feeling a bit better now. I think putting on make up actually lifts my mood because then I don't look as bad as I feel.

I managed to visit a few people over the weekend, I always feel calmer and able to manage more when dh is around. He works away from home though and has gone back to work at 4 am this morning. Have a few bits to do today. One thing I have really left until the last minute so it has to be done today.

Hope everyone has a good day.

RoseToes · 04/11/2019 10:15

I made myself breakfast today. I’ve lost 6 pounds in just over a week because I’m too drained to make myself food. But today I decided enough was enough and I’ve had some cereal. Very small win, but a win all the same Smile

Handbag101 · 05/11/2019 06:52

What an brilliant thread. I've read each post. I'll definitely be looking at that action for happiness site. I suffer from anxiety and have actually taken a couple of days off work. We've only just moved house and on Sunday had a terrible leak. It's all sorted now but it's constantly on my mind that it is going to happen again. As its a new house, I'm constantly checking the boiler, radiators and listening out for every single noise I can hear. It's not healthy. The plumber has assured me it's fixed. I darent even have the boiler on. It's pathetic when you think about it as a house could leak at any time. I haven't really eaten since Sunday but did manage to go to the gym last night. I need to enjoy my lovely new house. Not be a prisoner in it. Thanks for listening everyone.

SeaSidePebbles · 05/11/2019 07:04

Today I’m going to work using a different route, just for kicks. Try it!

JustAnotherPoster00 · 05/11/2019 07:19

Hi everyone, hope its ok if I post as well, normally when I have something to do in the morning thats important I stress about it and end up getting up late and missing whatever important thing is going on, but I managed to sleep and get up in enough time for once, its a little accomplishment in comparison to others on here (you people are amazing can I just add) but its big enough to make my day go a little smoother

Hope everyone is going to have a great day Smile Flowers

Disfordarkchocolate · 05/11/2019 10:18

Morning everyone, it's great to read about others and know I'm not in this alone.

I gave myself a very quiet weekend after a busy half term. Yesterday was cake making day and I made an especially lovely ginger loaf. Today I'm doing to try and finish a very tricky work-related letter, I've been drafting it for nearly a week. I have downloaded a good audiobook to help me wind down when I need to.
