Have took my first dose and really don't want to take the next as I feel totally wiped by it. So tired.

I was prescribed this to help with insomnia, it worked. Have you tried taking it before bed? I also found it increased my appetite, but it was worth it to get back into a sleeping pattern.

Hope you feel better soon x

I don’t recall your side effects. It worked really well for my depression at first, but appetite was huge. I put on 10kg/1st 8lb in a month which brought back depression worse than before so I had to stop it.

Demogorgmum · 26/10/2019 13:20

Thanks, I took it at 7pm last night was asleep after around an hour. Woke up this morning at around 9:30, I was awake with the kids a number of times last night which isn't unusual, although I was able to sleep between wake ups which is unusual.
My mouth is dry, don't feel the hunger... yet.
Not sure if the tiredness is a temporary side effect or not. There was no patient info leaflet with my meds. I've gone from being unable to sit still yesterday to feeling like a zombie today.

I haven't had any side effects apart from weight gain.

It gives my dad horrendous night terrors but he takes it as an alternative to sertraline which made him suicidal.

humanfemale · 26/10/2019 13:28

I remember feeling very drowsy some days on it, but it definitely got better over time. Feeling drowsy was a massive improvement on what I had been feeling leading up to it, so was happy to accept it!

It helped me get through one of the darkest times of my life, but in the end it was uncontrollable appetite and weight gain that made me decide to stop, after about a year.

If you find mirtazapene doesn't work out for you, OP, I am now taking Amitriptyline for insomnia with no side effects and it's been excellent for me.

Good luck! Thanks

Made me put on weight

Its interesting to note it is a drug also prescribed to anorexics.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 26/10/2019 13:30

I find Citilopram works well for me .

InkyFANGERSInkyFace · 26/10/2019 13:38

I won't touch it.

I put on several stone, and I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome which were vastly affected by it. If I take it, it renders me bedridden.

What exactly have you been prescribed it for? There's no one pill which works the same for everyone as even if two people have the same issues their bodies will react differently to something. So I can't recommend you something else.

My sleep issues are a combination of ADHD, stress and my sensory issues. I'm using Melatonin at the moment which is wonderful.

I take Venlafaxine for my depression and anxiety but whilst it's worked wonders, it's also very addictive and if I don't take it I get discontinuation syndrome.

If it's a sleep reason, it's worth pushing for a sleep study unless it's definitely related to depression or something else.

fantasmasgoria1 · 26/10/2019 15:14

It does make you sleepy so I used to take it just before bed. After a few weeks the tiredness lessens. It can also increase appetite.

Demogorgmum · 26/10/2019 16:32

I'm on it for agitated depression. I feel a little more awake now last nights dose is wearing off.
Feeling quite stressed about something that has gone wrong today now though so will take the next dose to put me to sleep if anything. I just want to curl up and cry. I'm not going any where tomorrow so being tired isn't a problem for now.
How soon did the extreme hunger begin?
Thank you everyone for your advice.

I never had extreme hunger on these meds and started on higher doses than mentioned here. I think it really is unique and don't walk into it expecting side effects.

CactusAndCacti · 28/10/2019 16:10

I started on M, absolutely wiped me out at first, but I had been surviving on about 3 hours sleep a night. It did settle down, but I had time off work and DH is a sahp so no child related worries.

AmethystWoodstar · 28/10/2019 16:22

It has been the best anti depressant for me. When anxious/depressed I have a very poor appetite and chronic insomnia- and mirtazapine really helps with those symptoms. I eat better and sleep better on them and I think this helps. I have few side effects on them - I did put on about a stone at first, but I was skinny due to not eating properly for years so this was probably a good thing.

billandbenflowerpotmen1 · 28/10/2019 16:23

The tiredness lasted about two weeks, then settled. Same with a dry mouth. However the appetite stimulant effect got worse and worse.
The positives were a lovely full night sleep and an amazing effect on depression
