What is it that you're afraid of?

hormonesorDHbeingadick · 08/10/2019 12:30

I don’t watch scary films anymore, they terrify me. I don’t enjoy them so I don’t watch them but I can’t say it has a major impact on my life.

MrsMaiselsMuff Dont really know TBH .Its illogical and hard to explain .When a child. lost my DF and my Mum would often have nightmares ,maybe connected dont really know.Just a fear of the unknown I guess !

Hormones ,Yes I hate scary films too .Most of the time doesnt really impact on me .Just annoying today lady stroked my dog .Seemed nice got talking ,somehow conversation went to spirit guides (okay at this point!) but somehow got more intense with her telling me she had actually seen a ghost!.Hurried up to get home (think if I see her again will try to avoid !).

I love watching ghost things and thrillers, bit of non-gory horror too
Nothing has ever happened to me, honestly!

I'd say don't be scared and let it rule your life, you've managed so far to not be possessed, haunted or visited by ghosts and demons so take that as a positive Wink

I think having an overactive imagination (and it seems overactive brain) as a child , I freaked myself out.

I used to have dreams where dummies came alive and chased me , dreamt that I woke up from the nightmare in my room and being comforted by mum with the light on, but then woke up for real in the dark....I couldn’t go to the toilet by myself, or walk in the dark after watching Omen...

I don’t know...to an extent I grew out of it...but I just avoid seeing stuff in trailers etc..

Not sure what the answer is but you are not alone.

I know it was a long time ago, but I think it's connected to losing your father and your mum's reaction. As a child this may have frightened you and created this fear.
I was scared my grandad would be a ghost after he died when I was a child. I couldn't sleep or be on my own.
Counselling would help, or psychotherapy. Ask for help.

Limensoda .Thank you I think you may be right there .The circumstances surrounding DF death were difficult (Died of a heart attack in the night ,when I woke up he was gone!) .Counselling may be of help hadnt really thought about it TBH. Hate sleeping on my own as well ,went to stay with my Cousin couldnt sleep at all!

@04dottiedodah

It's never too late to get help.
A counsellor will help you understand how you processed this as a little girl. Emotionally, you may still have that little girls fear. As an adult you know it's not a logical reaction but can't let go of the child's emotion.
There's no guarantee it will work but it's worth a try.

Limensoda Thank you again ,You are right ,Counselling I had was when I lost my Mum a few years back from Cruse .As a little girl felt quite unable to talk it about it much in front of Mum/Nan ,as they didnt want to upset me (quite a common reaction back then I think).Didnt go to the funeral for the same reason either !.I think there must be a link for sure .
