My life insurance was up for renewal this year. The premium has jumped massively, 3x what it was previously even taking into account I'm now older than the initial life insurance premium which would have meant a slight increase in the premium anyway.
The insurance broker told me it was because last year I was diagnosed with bipolar, which had been mistaken for depression for 10 years.
It seems strange to me as now I'm on the correct medication for the bipolar I feel so much better. The anti d's I was on before were having no effect unsurprisingly and I had periods of severe depression including suicidal thoughts. I am so much more stable now and haven't had any more periods of depression or 'high' phases. I have bi polar 2, which is not as severe as bi polar 1.
It's very likely that insurance companies have no real understanding of mental illness which is very unfair.
Has anyone else experienced this?
