Today I took my first Sertraline tablet

Hello fellow MH sufferers.

Today I have taken my first Sertraline tablet. I had severe depression in my 20s and then struggled after my first child was born, and then again when my mum was ill... and now... the fourth time in my life in which I stare the Black Dog in the face.

Apart from the first time I have always managed to get through the darkness by soldiering on... willpower ... wait ad it will pass, and it did pass eventually.

But this time I felt medication could help. My GP also though so, considering I was sobbing in his surgery. I was prescribed Sertraline.

I waited a few days, but after a rather bad meltdown Wednesday night I decided to get on with it.

So I took my first tablet today and not sitting on my bed terrified about it with my eyes wide open as if I had been taking some form of acid instead of some safe medication that millions of people take everyday.

Tell me to get a grip! And also tell me i'll feel better soon as I am in so much pain.

Day 10. Working with my laptop in my bed. Feel fragile as if I was made of glass.

Sorry to hear you're feeling like that MonnaLIza. I'm feeling a bit queasy but am just back from the gym and didn't have anything to eat so could be that.

MonnaLIza · 14/10/2019 10:46

@NK1cf53daaX127805d4fd5 well done you for going to the gym. I just had chocolate cake for brunch. 😬

I just joined 2 weeks ago. I figure I might as well give myself the best chance by trying to get physically fit as well as mentally fit.

I had a choccie bar for my brunch yesterday. Was yummy too

Day 12 - just did a rather gruelling job interview. I was a disaster. It was good in a way as it's telling me (in the negative!) which direction to move on... NOT that one :D

Day 13. Away for work. Really, really tired.

Look after yourself @MonnaLiza, if you’re away can you get an early night in a comfy hotel bed? Remember anxiety is pretty tiring.
I continue to find this thread helpful For reminding me.

MonnaLIza · 18/10/2019 10:05

hello @Coldhandscoldheart glad this is useful. I wayback home last night after 2 really intense days and taking it really easy this morning. I have another job interview this afternoon.

Day 14. Slightly better. Like s ray of sunshine through very heavy clouds. Had breakfast in bed (off work today).

I am starting to understand that this tiredness is the result of months when I have been burning the candle at all ends and just gone on and on an adrenaline. I am recovering, resting and regrouping for a while now. It makes sense.

Good luck with the interview!

pollypocket952 · 18/10/2019 15:42

@Monaliza so sorry to hear you still aren't feeling any better.

That being said you've done so well coping with job interviews etc as there was no way I could have coped with that when I started the sertraline.

Sending hugs & Thanks

Take it easy when you can xX

MonnaLIza · 18/10/2019 15:43

Thank you! This was a second interview and went really well. Grin

And I have been invited for a second interview for another company next week! Maybe things are finally starting to look up. Grin

I just wish I wasn't so so tired.

Morning. How's everyone. Day 15. I have noticed that my anxiety (I call it the shark alarm because it feels like I am in the water with a Great White permanently) seems to be turned off. SmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmile

Hi all :) Day 17. A chilled day as I have a very busy week, with 3 trips away for work but thankfully working in a relaxed manner from home today.

I am starting to accept the tiredness as a response to all the stress I have accumulated in the past years. I was going on adrenaline, hardly sleeping, being always at 130% of capacity and now I am resting. I am also applying for different, less stressful types of jobs and changing my life. Sadly the line of work in which I am now is not doing anything for my mental health. There is no shame in admitting that. I thought this was my path but it's not.

newsflash: I have been offered a new job!! Grin Grin Grin Grin

Following. Too scared to start mine as I'm often "fine" and fully functional. But then I scream at my small child and feel horrendous.

PintOfBovril · 21/10/2019 10:23

Please may I join? Transitioned to Sertraline last week from years of Citalopram. Diagnosed with PND and anxiety and feeling the worst I've ever felt. So low. All the light has gone from my life. Just hoping for something to lift this cloud.

MonnaLIza · 21/10/2019 10:31

Welcome tempnamechange98765 - I was also 'functional' and worried about losing myself. It has been, for me, a good decision as I was having some really really desperate days and just wanted to disappear. That feeling is now gone! And welcome to PintOfBovril, I felt very much like that at the end of last month.
