Arapiprazole

Does anyone have experience of this drug? My Psych wants me to switch from Quetiapine 500mg to it

Not me but DH takes 25mg (originally started at 30mg) he has paranoid schizophrenia he has been stable on the aripiprizole for four years now.

If you've any specific questions I can ask him although as I'm sure you already know medication works differently with everyone.

My DB had a psychotic breakdown and has been on Aripiprazole for 4 years after being on Respiridone previously for about 8 months. (No idea why it was changed ). He was originally on 10mg per day but now on 5mg. He did have a few side effects (which Psychiatrist denies is due to this) of involuntary movements/twitches of his spine and teeth-grinding.

He was told he'd only be on it for about a year but is still on it. I now think he should come off it, having seen a report about the effect of anti-psychotics on those with dementia but psyche insists he'll probably have a relapse if he stops even though he isn't even on a therapeutic dose.

I take it for bipolar (also take sertraline and Lamotrigine) and it works well for me. I’ve gained a bit of weight but that could just be because I’m feeling better and eating more than I did (I used to only eat toast at bedtime and that was it).
