My advice would be to do it very slowly, and make sure your GP agrees first. If you've been taking them for less than about 9 months the GP will probably want you to take them for a little while longer to make sure that you've really given them time to work.

I wouldn't recommend missing out days when you first start withdrawing; it's best to keep the dose steady to start with until you get used to having less in your system.

When I withdrew from 40mg Citalopram, I did it over a couple of weeks. I halved the dose for a week, then halved it again for another week. The GP advised that I should then have 10mg every other day for a few days but I didn't need to do that.

When I initially dropped the dose I felt a bit sick and shaky for a day or two, but nowhere near as bad as I felt when I first started taking them. I had no problems at all when I dropped to 10mg, so didn't feel the need to reduce them any further before stopping.

The side effects from withdrawing can be as bad as those you get when you first start - hence my suggestion that you take a reduced dose every day rather than start going from a full dose one day to nothing the next.

Oh - and be prepared to turn into a bitch troll from hell. Withdrawing made me very snappy, irritable and bad tempered, and that lasted for a couple of months.
