Citalopram - weight gain

My weight has been very stable for the last few years, but since starting Citalopram , it’s been creeping up. . About 10 pounds in 18 months.
I took another ssri many years ago and gained 2.5 stone in 3 years. As soon as I stopped it, the weight just dropped off with no dieting at all. I’m assuming I must just be one of the unlucky ones who gains weight on ssri s. Anyone else have any experiences?

Yes, this has happened to me. It's making me feel so uncomfortable. I've been considering trying to come off ADs. Only been on for 7 months or so but I've piled on a lot.

Sorry to hear it’s happening to you too. Are you taking Citalopram?

Same for me! It’s annoying but my mood is so much better on them I don’t want to stop them really.

I started on citalopram then switched to escitalopram because the side effects were so bad, but I wouldn't say it's free from side effects and the weight gain is definitely related.

Yes I find citalopram seems to interfere with the full switch so I eat more as don't feel it. Weight was fairly stable before each time then piled it on after taking it.

However when I did exante VLCD diet to loose the weight i was fine, felt full so after i carried on lower carb. If I have sugary/processed carbs like bread/cakes/pasta etc I'm soon back to bingeing as don't get that satisfied full feeling.

Yep, I've put on two stone in a year. Miserable but can't live without ADs.
