I'm just wondering if anyone with a similar history to mine has found any success with adding in another drug when they got to 40 or whenever perimenopause started for them. I'm on 40mg of fluoxitine permanently, which holds me fairly well, but I feel sluggish (not cos of the drug, more the depression) and I do feel quite flat and a bit low. Just wondering if because my hormones are changing it might be a good time to try adding something in? No idea what to ask the GP for though. I've tried venlafaxine before but it made me very agitated. Any ideas?

Hi
Have you been of Prozac years?
It may of pooped out on you(not doing it’s job as good as it once did)
Ie you feeling flat/down
Don’t know about Prozac is that the max dose? Upping perhaps?

Have you had your hormones tested? Or have your periods stopped/very irregular?

Thanks for replying. I've got a feeling the Prozac is still working but that I need some sort of stimulant. I've had other ssris during pregnancies so not been exclusively on Prozac the whole time, but I've been on it on and off for 20yrs. Wrt hormones, I certainly feel movement in that area - periods coming much closer together. GP won't test anything cos he says I'm too young. I'm on 40mg not sure if I can go higher.

Nhs site says max dose for Prozac is 60 mg.

Do you get anxiety or just depression?, only asking as I have anxiety which can lead to depression. Im much better pm, mornings arnt good for me(more anxiety flatter mood)

bigfatmeanie · 22/06/2019 13:59

Would it be worth changing the time you're taking it or splitting the dose into am and pm? Not sure if that would interfere with sleep though.
I know a friend of mine has fluoxetine in the morning and arirpiprazole at night but that's for OCD/obsessive thoughts and has a calming effect.
Only thing I had that made me up was citalopram but I had anxiety at the time so it made me a lot jumpier.

Much more the depression than anxiety really. I find mornings pretty awful, afternoons bearable and them evenings good. I've tried moving the dose and splitting it and not noticed any difference. I thought the 60mg dose was just for eating disorders, but maybe I'm wrong. I've recently started having a couple of coffees in the morning, which is helping, because at least then I have a bit of energy to stay awake. I wish I could take some sort of stimulant, but I can't think of one. I did try venlafaxine years ago but I reacted badly to it. Thanks for chewing it over with me.
