I have had some major financial issues over the past year & on the road to getting sorted now. However I did a fucking stupid thing of driving without car tax & (as I rightly deserve), I got caught.

I got fined at court (didn't actually have to attend) & it's just under £1000. That was a month ago. I'm supposed to call up to tell them that I can't pay but I'm too scared, my anxiety is through the roof, but of course I know that it isn't going to go away. I just don't know what to expect & no-one else knows. It's too embarrassing & my DH would go mental. Help :(

@winepls I promise you the dread of doing this is worse than the actual doing it will be. I am sure in all cases like this, the best option is to be honest and don't avoid the situation as it will just get worse and the anxiety will be even more crippling. Carrying this secret all on your own will be adding to it. I would urge you to call them, and is there nobody you can confide in who could perhaps sit with you while you do it just as a bit of moral support? Flowers

Call now, you can do it and they will have had so many conversations like this before. Imagine HOW GOOD you will feel after having called them! Go on, go and do it now.

Phone them and they will take as little as £5 per week. If you don't you will get court baifts knocking on your door. I know it's hard but you need to phone them today and honestly they will work with you to sort out payments.

Thanks so much for the replies, I did it! It was horrible but the lady was lovely & actually it was £300 less than I thought it was so that was a bonus.

I think it helped that my kids were in the next room & so I had to keep my self in check. Bloody phew xxx

Well done x

Well done OP, I'm exactly like this with 'official' phone calls and know how much it took for you to do it. But you did, and it's spot on that thinking about it is worse than doing it. I hope things continue to improve for you, I've been there with the financial stuff too, it's bloody hard digging yourself out Flowers
