Has anyone come off mirtazipine?

Iv had various anti d’s over the year for anxiety and didn’t like how I felt. Was off them a long time and 2 years ago went though an awful stressful time. Gp put me on mirtazipine to try something different. Now whilst my life is stressful (things I can’t change) I’m ok... I’m not depressed but generally an anxious person. First thing I want to know is how do you know when to come off? I’m on 15mg and only stayed on them as they help me fall asleep. I read a thread yesterday (that I seemed to have killed!) and people mentioned weight gain. I put on half a stone and can not shift it and it does stress me out as with my size half a stone is a lot of extra weight. I’m wondering if the mirtazipine is to blame. Can anyone share their experience please?

I was on it about 10 years ago and put loads of weight on that I haven't managed to shift. It didn't really help with sleeping either.

I ended up on sertraline which I found much better for anxiety, could you change? It won't really help with sleeping though.

Iv had a lot Prozac, sertraline and another. I don’t like how I feel on those types hence why gp put me on these. I’m not depressed, feeling you’re optimistic, I’m just generally an anxious person. My life is stressful but not remotely depressed so I don’t want to try anything else?

I've been on it for about 3 weeks now. I took it a few years ago but hate medication and only take it when I hit a real low, so I was only on it for a few weeks and then stopped.

My mood has been awful recently and I've had massive panic attacks so I'm planning on staying on it for a while this time. To begin with it brought on my vertigo and I had flashes of light behind my eyes everytime I tried to sleep. It also gave me terrible restless legs Sad

Luckily that stopped after the first week and now I'm just dealing with the extreme tiredness it brings and yes, the massive appetite! I've put on a few pounds already but to be honest I'd rather stay on it and put on a bit of weight as long as my mental health is improving, which it is Smile

Only you know how you feel and if you think you can handle it you can ask your GP about stopping. Or maybe there is something else you can try that is a bit 'weaker', they may not have helped before, especially if you were so low, but if you have improved a lot now they may be enough to keep you up and you'll have less side effects? I think that's what I'll do once I'm feeling stronger Smile

Sorry I'm not sure if I answered any questions properly, my head is so fuzzy at the moment Blush

Thanks for answering. I didn’t have any side affects when I started it at all. It was only reading a thread yesterday about people putting on weight whilst on it that made me think, Iv worked bloody hard and can’t shift the half stone no matter how little I eat! Perhaps I may try coming off in the understanding I can always go back on it...

i asked for it as my first AD due to less risk of nausea (emetophobe) but came off it after a few months due to constipation and probably would have had weight gain if i’d stayed on much longer. i tapered off it and onto sertraline over about 1-2 weeks which wasn’t much fun but sertraline has been much better overall.
