Sertraline

My boyfriend started on sertraline on tuesday, he didn't have any symptoms up until last night, so 4 days of taking the tablet. He woke up at 2am had diarrhoea, went really hot and anxious and vomited. This only happened the once. What he was wondering is could this be the sertraline even after 4 days of taking or something else?

I was similar when I started, though I didn't vomit, and it happened after a couple of days. But the next day I was slightly nauseous, and after that was completely fine, so encourage him to stick with it.

I don't know to to explain he said he didn't vomit as such but to me he did lol. He said he had a drink before going to the toilet and it came up his throat and into his mouth without the forcefulness of vomiting. I felt so bad for him, he looked dreadful last night, felt so sick and stomache ache and I couldn't do anything for him. I did encourage him to take his tablet again this morning when he was a bit nervous too, hopefully he will stick with it

Honestly, you are doing the right thing by encouraging him to persevere - it really doesn't last long and then he'll feel miles better.

The diarrhoea is because the gut lining has serotonin receptors in it so they are affected by the antidepressants - it is a sign it's working!

His still taking his tablet. No more illness since the one I posted about, just if been a one off side effect for him
