So I have a first appointment next week with a psychiatrist following on from a gp referral I am incredibly anxious all the time and hear people and see shadows of people that aren't there I'm terrified I will be broken into etc the gp didn't prescribe anti depressants or anything and said she wanted to let them see me as I am without any sort of medication , I'm now worried that I'm going to go there and they will get social services to take my children away Sad someone talk me through what happens at these assessments I know I need help but I'm so anxious it's unbearable !

They're not going to take your children away. You've told us nothing that would suggest your children are at risk.

The psychiatrist will talk to you about the feelings you're having now, and if anything has happened in the past that might contribute to these feelings. They may offer a diagnosis (they may not also), they'll focus on what treatment might best help you. This might be talking therapy, medication or both.

It might be helpful to write down what you want to say beforehand so you don't forget anything. They won't mind that at all.
