Anger management

Hi,
I've recently stopped taking sertraline, must be 2 months ago now.
I took it due to pnd.
Since coming off I've found myself very irritable and angry. It's awful! I just don't feel like myself at all. I've spoken to the gp, who suggested looking into anger management, we both agree that restarting sertraline isn't necessary.
So- has anyone overcome irritability/anger? And if so how? Did you attend counselling? A course? Did a certain book help?
I've had a look online and the choices seem overwhelming.
To be Frank, I'm a total bitch right now- and that needs to change.
NB, I have obviously tried counting to 10, walking away, etc. That means I don't explode at anyone, but I'm sure you can still tell I'm bristling, and it doesn't change how I feel.

Hi QueenFreak,

Hopefully someone else will be along to offer better advice in a bit but I've recently started controlling my anger issues better and there are two things that have really helped:

  1. Keeping a mood diary and recognising that anger often masks other emotions- e.g. when I'm angry I might be feeling a combination of hurt/offended, depressed/sad etc. and that often angry responses are not appropriate to the situation and then responding by letting myself cry or doing something constructive instead.
  1. Recognising that sometimes anger is just physical- whether through neurotransmitter issues, hormones or even raised blood pressure due to hunger (hanger!) and trying to address that (e.g. for hormones taking vitamin B6 and evening primrose oil; for "hanger" eating; for Depression addressing the depression through therapy or medication.

Hi, I go the same if I come off my anti depressants. It's horrible and makes you question so much
