Hi, I hope I'm in the right place. I was diagnosed with PTSD around 4 years ago and have had really bad problems since with my mental health but over the past 1 year I have been getting different symptoms and my doctor says it's down to my mental health but I don't see how.

Every other week I am coming down with flu-like symptoms, coughing up phlegm with black dots in it, night sweats are really bad, a constant whooshing in my head, diarrhea and just feeling generally unwell. It comes in waves, I have been to my doctor on many separate occasions but they say there's nothing and puts it down to my mental health but how can this be?

needless to say, it is doing my mental health no good and keeps dragging me back into a hole, any advice of info would be greatly received.

Thank you

have you had a blood test? are you on any medication that has side effects like this? how are your vitamin levels?

sazza200 · 21/04/2019 19:21

yes, I have had multiple blood tests, I have a very poor immune system and quite frequently get colds and flus but this feels different from a cold or flu.

The medication I take is

Mitrazipine
venlafaxine
Pregabalin

Thank you so much for your reply

I'd definitely be seeking a second opinion OP. I'm no doctor but even knowing that the body can react in all sorts of ways to anxiety and stress, that sounds like there is something underlying (that could be related to your poor immune system?).
Find out exactly what tests have been done, including if they've looked at any deficiencies like iron, ferritin, B12 and vitamin D; and thyroid, coeliac, infection/inflammation. I'd want to know what they'd checked and what's been ruled out so far. Has the doc checked your glands/lymph nodes? Health worries can emerge if you're struggling with your mental health, and it can be hard to take reassurances on board - but that doesn't mean your instincts are wrong, and it certainly sounds like your body is struggling with something.

I have had a blocked lymph node on a couple of occasions, right at this moment in time I feel like that is back also.

Hi- PTSD can certainly involve physical symptoms. I would recommend you read 'The Body Keeps the Score' by Bessel Van Der Kolk. Its a fantastic book and really eye opening. Good luck... by the way have you been offered any trauma focused therapy? CBT or EMDR can both be very helpful for PTSD.

Blocked lymph node? Swollen?
Go and get a second opinion.
