Self referral

Has anyone used the self referral for NHS therapy?
I've been struggling with some things that I can't shake and my dp suggested I get councelling. I didn't want to go through my Dr because he is not very helpful and I always struggle to try and explain what's wrong because he's very stern and I panic so I thought the self referral thing would be better. They got back to me very quickly to organise a phone consultation and I was just wondering if anyone has had that, what should I expect?
I'm very nervous and torn between realising I need proper help and feeling as though my problems don't Warrent proper help. Any advice or experiences would be really helpful.

There will probably be some online questionnaires before hand for anxiety, depresion scores, suicide risk etc. They will probably ask you what you are looking to get out of therapy (goals), the difficulties you are having, have you had therapy before. They should give you some feedback - most likely it will be that they will discuss with supervisor and come back in a week or so to confirm if its right for you and the wait list.
