Sertraline success stories

I've just been put on sertraline (again) to help my depression and anxeity. I was on it a few years ago and then stopped but all I can remember is feeling very sick with a dry mouth.

Please anyone who has been on this how long did it take to stop feeling like this? I so want to get better, and I need to for the sake of my son, but I just feel so low and sceptical that these tablets will actually work.

Thank you

They’ve been nothing short of miraculous for my husband. About 5 days of dry mouth/tight jaw/sleep disturbance for him

I am sorry you are not well Thanks. I was in a very bad place few months ago and was put on antidepressants. I was previously on Citalopram for few year before stopping it gradually. The GP suggested that I should go on Setraline but I thought that my body is used to Citalopram & should be easy to start back on them, rather than trying Setraline. But it wasn't easy. I was sick, had dry moth and felt sick for most part of the day. Please be assured that it will settle, just persevere. Take little frequent meals, fruits & try to drink little sips of water . I used ginger hard boiled sweets to help the sickness. Three months later , I am here & glad I persevered.
I am here for a handhold if you need one Smile

Thank you both Thanks I suppose sometimes it has to get worse before it gets better, that's how I'm trying to see it.

You will definitely get better. First week or so is hard but you will start seeing the benefits of medication soon.
Also if you have got some friends and family around to distract you, please ask them to come around, if they can. Having people around helps.
I binge watched Big Bang theory & How I met your mother, to keep me going. Be kind to your self and you will come through the other side feeling brighter..Thanks

End of day one and already I'm grinding my teeth and have completely lost my appetite. Didn't think the side effects would kick in this quickly :( hoping I can sleep tonight. Thank you for your help x

The worst of the side effects were over in a few days, after a few weeks pretty much all were gone. I've been on them.... I dunno.... 18 months? They literally saved my life.

Kittykat93 · 10/04/2019 18:40

Thank you @Lacypants , I'm really glad to hear you're doing better now. Also reassuring that I won't feel this crap for too much longer, today I feel even worse Sad

I'm currently down to half dosage every other day, and plan on stopping them all together in the next week.

I had similar side effects and also feeling crazy wired at night for a while. But within a few weeks it's settled, Netflix helped keep me company!
I found it totally worth the side effects

I'm feeling really positive now and my DH has commented how much more I laugh now!

Hope things settle down for you soon, and well done for getting help, I know I found that the hardest step Thanks

Over just titrated down, and stopped sertraline altogether. I credit it for actually saving mine and my daughters life when I had pnd.
I remember not sleeping, feeling nauseous and having a dry mouth for just over a week, but I swear I felt the start if improvement in my MH within 4 days (gp says it's not possible, so was probably the relief of actually getting support)
I took them for just over 20 months.
Coming off was way worse for me, took me 4 weeks to feel myself again.
That was 2 weeks ago, and I feel my normal self. Keep going. Side effects and soon enough, and it's much better than the original problem

I’ve been on sertraline for nearly three months now. The physical side effects only lasted for a few days and I felt a lifting of mood after a week or so but my anxiety got worse and it wasn’t until about 8 weeks that I felt completely normal. I really thought I’d have to increase the dose but I’ve stayed on 50mg and feel better now than I have in years.
