Finally my DS has agreed to visit his GP about his MH issues, He just wants the GP to give him some tablets and let him get out, in your experience is this what happens on a first meeting or will they want him to see a therapist or something? He is 25

They will probably suggest both a talking therapy such as CBT and SSRI antidepressant tablets. There will be a waiting list for the CBT though so he might be waiting weeks or months for that.

Depends entirely. From my experience....

He will probably have to fill in the depression and anxiety questionnaires if that's relevant. Will get told to self refer to counselling and get some of the starter low dose ADs.

Told to come back in a month maybe.

Ditto to @cheeserolls prediction.

Don't rush him when he gets home as he may already feel overwhelmed, but gently discuss if he feels the doctor could help or if he feels fobbed off.

With the NHS under pressure, some doctors feel forced into dishing out anti depressants and a "come back and tell us how you are in a month or two" without joining up services such as mental health professionals.

You could also give some helplines a call for advice, and / or direct your son to them if and when he feels ready - there is a charity called CALM which has fantastic resources specifically designed to support young men. They really are brilliant.

Well done to him for being brave and speaking up and well done to you for wanting to do right by him Thanks

He came back with Fluoxetine and done leaflets about CALM do he feels ok about that.
